In 2023, I listed out the games I was interested in getting to the table over the span of the year.
Here’s how I did:
❌ Noblis/Glitch
✔️ Ars Magica. Nice tight three-session run in my old Mystic Isles campaign.
🤷🏾♂️ DeGenesis - Session zero, made characters, tough scheduling
🤷🏾♂️ Double Cross - Session zero..then collapse.
✔️ Ruin Masters - played in a one-shot
✔️ Nahual Played in a one-shot.
❌ Coriolis
❌ Fate RPG - Setting paralysis
✔️ Tenra Bansho Zero - 3 separate runs.
✔️ Atma - 5 runs, and I bought the season two expansion!
I’m working on The 2023 Mad Jay Picks post. Here’s the list of games I played in 2023, the “nominees,” if you will!
Twilight 2000 - Over 50 sessions before we hit the pause button.
Burning Wheel
Miseries & Misfortunes, three games of it at Burning Wheel Con 2023
Classic Traveller on Twitch/ActualPlay
Star Dogs, White Star, and Xplorers with Rich Rogers
5E Neverwinter Adventures three sessions starting with 3rd-level characters.
Apocalypse World: Burned Over
CY-BORG
Tenra Bansho Zero - such a great game.
Rolemaster!! Such a good run of this game!
Old School Essentials - small runs prepping for The Halls of Arden Vul 2024
Cortex Prime - a favorite household system.
The Year Ahead 🤷🏾♂️
For sure, I’ll get a lot of play out of Household RPG. I’m plotting a run at The Halls of Arden Vul with Cortex Prime. Atma stays in the “Ready for Con Tables” toolbelt. IIRC Moria from Free League drops this year and I’ll make space to run that. I think I just have to pick a BIG game, prep some pitch materials, and push through inertia to make it go.
